How to make Sorbet ice cream?
Mark E.
Sorbet is a dairy-free frozen dessert made with fruit, sugar, and water. Here's how you can make a simple and delicious sorbet at home:
Basic Sorbet Recipe
This recipe makes about 4 servings.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups fresh or frozen fruit (e.g., mango, berries, peach, or pineapple)
- ½ cup sugar (adjust based on fruit sweetness)
- ½ cup water (or fruit juice for more flavor)
- 1 tbsp lemon or lime juice (enhances flavor)
- Optional: 1 tbsp corn syrup or honey (for smoother texture)
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Simple Syrup
- In a small saucepan, heat the sugar and water over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely. Let it cool.
-
Blend the Ingredients
- Add the fruit, cooled simple syrup, lemon juice, and optional sweetener to a blender. Blend until smooth.
-
Strain (Optional)
- If using fruits with seeds (like raspberries), strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve to remove solids.
-
Chill the Mixture
- Refrigerate the mixture for at least 2 hours to enhance the flavor and improve texture.
-
Freeze the Sorbet
- With an Ice Cream Maker: Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions (usually 20–30 minutes).
- Without an Ice Cream Maker: Pour the mixture into a shallow dish, freeze, and stir every 30 minutes with a fork to break up ice crystals. Repeat until smooth (about 3-4 hours).
-
Serve & Enjoy
- Let the sorbet sit at room temperature for 5 minutes before scooping. Serve and enjoy your homemade sorbet!
